Theories > Time Travel Theory

Written By Solo Wing Dragon, June 2002.

Please note, before you start emailing me complaining about how unrealistic this theory is understand that I do not believe this is the way that Panzer Dragoon Saga ended. However after thinking of this theory up I came to the conclusion that it is theoretically possible, just extremely unlikely. So without further delay I will explain to you what is possibly my most peculiar explanation to what did happen at the end of Panzer Dragoon Saga.

In the Tower near Uru where Edge, Azel, and the Dragon were last seen heading for by the Seekers, the path to Sestren began. Now if you remember the locations in the game quite well, you will remember that just before the path to Sestren there was an ancient device (a save point). Then Edge and his Dragon leave for Sestren and are never seen by anyone outside of Sestren again (as far as the we know). But that leaves a lot of unanswered questions... Where did Edge vanish off to? And why, after the game is complete, does the dragon appear back at the last save point and the story continues as if nothing had happened, yet he still has all the experience and stats that were gained in the final battles?

I came up with the idea of Time Travel. It's crazy for sure, but it's also one of the only ways I could think of for the situation to work if you put it into the plot of Panzer Dragoon Saga. The Ancients were much more advanced than most people thought, including the Empire. Being able to create a super being that could control the world through towers and monsters was an impressive fulfilment but Sestren being in another dimension was something else altogether. In the brief encounter with Sestren I learned that his Exsis form was able to throw hurl objects out of the past (such as Shelcoof and Mel Kava). This is surely evidence of time travel being possible in the Panzer Dragoon world.

So, you are probably wondering, how would Edge and the Dragon have been transported back in time to the Tower? Lets go back to the idea of save points, the "Ancient Devices". In one of the books written by Zadoc the Compiler (a Seeker) he admits that the seekers were not completely sure of all the purposes that these recording devices had. It is possible that they were also used to control monster populations, almost like a mini tower. Maybe Sestren had some sort of back up system that sent the Dragon back in time to one of the recording devices, which had recorded, all that happened before the battle with Sestren. This would give Sestren another change of beating the "Impurity" as he called the dragon and would also explain why the dragon's stats were at the same as at the end of the game.

There is only one flaw I can find with this theory. Why does everything happen exactly the same the second time you go after Sestren? If Edge has already fought Sestren and knows that he has little chance of returning then why would he tell Azel that he would come back for her (unless he's just being really brave)? But if you put aside this flaw then it would be possible... it sounds really deranged. Of course with Panzer Dragoon Orta coming out we may finally find out what really happened.
