Theories > Anti Dragon Theory

Written By Solo Wing Dragon, June 2002.

Before the final battle against Sestren, Edge and his dragon have to confront the five Anti-Dragons. These are almost clones of your very own dragons forms from throughout the game. They are undoubtedly guardians of the core being of Sestren, but why would they have exactly the same forms as the previous incarnations of Edge's dragon? We will probably never know but I have come up with decent enough theory that makes enough sense to be why this could have happened...

You may not have noticed, but the backgrounds of the battles against each of the Anti Dragons are in fact very simular to locations found throughout the game. When fighting the first of the Anti Dragons, the Anti Basic Wing, the background looks almost the same as the Garil Desert. Take out the strange orange mists of Sestren and you'll find that it's basically identical. The same goes for the next Anti Dragon - the background for the Anti Valiant Wing looks suspiciously like the ocean stage of Georgious. Furthermore all the other Anti Dragons, Anti Stripe Wing, Anti Panzer Wing, and Anti Eye Wing have backgrounds from other areas in the game.

At first I thought this was done intentionally and it could well have been just a way of showing off the various locations for a last time. But there is a set pattern about the order in which the backgrounds are displayed. For every one of them it is the last place that type of dragon is seen in the game. Take for example the Anti Eye Wing. When Edge and his dragon are fighting this beast there is a forest behind them, although thickly clouded in Sestrens fumes. Undoubtedly this is the Forest of Zoah. This was also the last place that the Eye Wing was seen in before it was seen in before it morphed into the Arm Wing. Coincidence? I think not.

My theory is that when the Eye Wing changed shape (or any other of the dragon types into their next form) the leftover DNA was transported somewhere. Still follow me? When the Arm Wing was formed that Eye Wing didn't just disappear forever did it? What I thought could have happened was the Eye Wing could have been pushed into the Sestren 'reality' where it became a kind of ghost form of what the dragon once was. An Anti Dragon. The reason why the background was of the Forest of Zoah was because that was the last memory that the Eye Wing had before it changed into its new form, and Sestren was somehow projecting the Anti Eye Wing's memories. The dragon (Lagi) was once part of Sestren so it would make sense for Sestren to be able to mess around with his memories.

So why then is there no Anti Arm Wing? Well if you don't find the Light Wing anytime in the game then there would never be the chance for the Arm Wing's DNA to be transported into Sestren. The same goes for an Anti Light Wing; there is no guarantee that the player will find all the D-Units and the Baby Dragon to get the Solo Wing.

Having an Anti Solo Wing in the game is where the theory doesn't quite add up. When the battle with Sestren begins there is a dragon flying around Sestren which looks suspiciously like the Solo Wing. It 'could' be the Anti Solo Wing but if it was it would make everything else I have said here untrue. It could also just be another guardian of Sestren but the similarities do seem a little too close.

Team Andromeda may have not meant anything when they chose the backgrounds for the battles against the anti dragons but there's always the possibility that it was done for a purpose. It's really down to the player what they think of it, so I'll leave it up to you... the Divine Visitor... to make up your own mind.
