120. Downloadable footage of Sega Ages: Panzer Dragoon.
Date: 19th of September, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
Just a quick update to let everyone know (if you haven't already seen it) that 1up.com has released a trailer of the new Panzer Dragoon "remake". The game isn't so much of a remake as an enhanced port of the original game, with improved models in some places, and a (much needed!) smoother frame rate. Sites like Gamespot couldn't tell some of the smaller differences between the new version and the original so it's looking likely that this one might only be something that hardcore Panzer Dragoon fans will want to pick up. However, the framerate was one of the biggest flaws of the original Saturn version, which carried over into the PC and Xbox versions, so it is nice that something is finally being done about it. Follow this link to download the screener and see the game running for yourself.
The Magic Box has also posted some screenshots, which look like they're straight from the 1up video. I must admit, news has been slow in coming to the main page of this site, so if you're eager to find out about the latest updates on Sega Ages: Panzer Dragoon be sure to check out the latest posts in this forum topic.
And yes I know, I promised some new content for TWotA, and it hasn't come; rest assured, it will be included as part of the next update.

119. Panzer Dragoon for PS2 at TGS? It's looking likely.
Date: 16th of September, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
Game-Science.com has posted a list of games that will be appearing at this years Tokyo Game Show. Among the games, the Sega Ages "remake" of the original Panzer Dragoon appeared on the list with a release date of Quarter 4 2005. On the official Sega Ages lineup page it's stated that the next batch of Sega Ages titles will be released before March 2006 (thanks, Abadd, for the translation from Japanese), so there doesn't seem to be any conflict there. I think we can at least be certain that Sega Ages: Panzer Dragoon will be released sometime before the end of March 2006.
To reconfirm Panzer Dragoon's appearance at Tokyo Game Show, there is a picture of the game on display on this page. If you look closely at the game's logo you'll notice a white blur that isn't normally displayed beneath the original Panzer Dragoon logo. Does that mean that this new "subtitle" (if that's what it is) confirms that the game will be a full remake? Who knows, but it's certainly looking likely that this will be more than just a straight port without any changes. Thanks to Lance Way for this information and for the zoomed-in image.
There'll be another (much needed) update in the next few days featuring some new articles for TWotA, so stay tuned...

118. Panzer Dragoon feature in GamesTM magazine.
Date: 26th of July, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
In the latest issue of GamesTM (issue 34), forum-goer Szczepaniak has written a nice article that covers the history of the Panzer Dragoon series. I thought this would be worth mentioning here, as those of you who are in the UK should be able to obtain a copy of the magazine quite easily. For everyone else, I am told that the article should be available on the site's website in about four months, or if you know where to look there are some scans floating around the net...
Not much else for this update, as things have been pretty quiet in Panzer Dragoon community recently. No further news about the updated version of Panzer Dragoon for the Playstation 2 has been revealed, but I'm sure some additional information will become available nearer to the game's release. One thing that may interest eager rumour listeners, however, is a recent interview with between Sega and Nintendo Power. According to IGN.com, "When asked about the possibility of classic Sega properties such as Panzer Dragoon and Shinobi one day appearing on the Nintendo Revolution, Jeffrey commented that it's something Sega is definitely looking into." Does that mean that Panzer Dragoon 5 is currently being planned for the Revolution or another next generation console? Probably not, but there's no harm in a bit of healthy optimism.

117. That's right. Panzer Dragoon on a Sony console.
Date: 7th of July, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
As reported on IGN.com, Sega are re-releasing the original Panzer Dragoon game on Sony's Playstation 2 in an upcoming Sega Ages pack. As well as including a straight port of the original game, it sounds like Sega are planning to include a full remake of the 1995 Saturn game as well. The prospect of yet another port of the original game isn't anything to get excited about, but if Sega manage to create a smoother, graphically updated version of the game with improved controls then we may have something to look forward to after all.
Sega will be releasing Sega Ages Volumes 20 and 21 on October the 27th this year, and Panzer Dragoon is set to be included in the 22nd installment so I'm guessing that it will be available later in the year, or sometime in 2006. No release date has been confirmed for countries outside of Japan, so the game may or may not actually be localized. However, considering that Panzer Dragoon never had much dialogue anyway, this should only be a minor problem for English speakers who end up playing through the import version.
The Will of the Ancients will have more information about the Panzer Dragoon remake as it becomes available.
Update (08/07/2005) - It seems that I misread the line about Panzer Dragoon appearing on Sega Ages Volume 22. In actual fact, Panzer Dragoon has only been confirmed to be among the games "set to debut starting with Volume 22", so it won't necessarily be on Volume 22 itself.

116. Two theories, three videos, and a playable demo.
Date: 12th of June, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
Well, E3 has come and gone with no signs of a new Panzer Dragoon game. However, there are plenty of great looking titles coming out later this year to look forward to including Sega's own Phantasy Star Universe and Nintendo's turn based strategy game, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Both are sequels to long running, classic series', so I don't think RPG fans need feel too starved of games in the genre without the words Final Fantasy in the title, this year.
For this update Jeremy Prusak has submitted a theory that discussed some of the possiblities surrounding Azel's Awakening. Also KBlack, a new member of our forums, has also posted some more ideas about the origin of Orta's gun which I've edited slightly and compiled into a theory called the Dragon Factory Theory. Did Lagi himself create the gun?
Lastly, I have added four more downloads to the site. The first three are official videos from Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta (check the Videos section) and also a demo of the PC version of the original Panzer game. I hope they are of some use to someone.

115. Another short update.
Date: 4th of April, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
Pandora has submitted a new piece of fan fiction. Unlike most of the longer stories in the fan fiction section, Pandora's fanfic A Dragon Called Lagi is both short and complete. It retells the events that take place in the first episode of Panzer Dragoon Orta, as our heroine and her deadly winged friend escape the clutches the Empire amidst the raging storm.
I was planning to add some more multimedia content to the site this update, but due to some computer problems (don't they always happen at the worst of times?) it'll have to wait. If anyone has any trailers or ads for the Saturn Panzer Dragoon trilogy I'd be interested in hosting them on TWotA.

114. Where did the mutant monsters come from?
Date: 27th of March, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
Robert Frazer has submitted a new theory which discusses the downfall of the Ancient Age, and in particular, what caused an outbreak of mutant monsters in such a tightly controlled environmental system as that of the Towers. Is it possible that one group of the Ancients intended for these mutants to exist? I won't repeat anymore of what Robert has discussed in his article, but I can tell you that he's certainly raised some thought provoking ideas in his War Without End Theory.
I had something else planned for this update, but after being distracted by playing through a certain 35 hour long Star Wars RPG and spending most of the weekend on it, I've decided to leave it until next update (I need one of those fabled "breaks" from my PC). However, don't feel that you need to be kept in suspense - it's not something that can't be found elsewhere.

113. Panzer Dragoon's 10th anniversary has dawned on us.
Date: 10th of March, 2005
Updated By: Geoffrey Duke
It's hard to believe that the Panzer Dragoon series entered the world of gaming 10 years ago today. Although we've received no news of a new Panzer Dragoon game, the series will live on in our hearts for many years to come. Truth be told, recent events in the Sega community have robbed me of much of my enthusiasm. After watching Sega turn the latest Shining Force game into an Action/RPG (sacrificing the trademark turn-based Strategy/RPG gameplay that made the series so great in the first place) all in the name of money, I dread to think what Sega would do with a new Panzer Dragoon RPG. However, since many of the original creators of the series still work for Sega, we can probably rest assured that the future of the series is in capable hands... assuming of course we ever live to see a new game.
As for this update, to mark the series' 10th year anniversary, Lance has put together a new products section for the site where you can naturally view every single Panzer Dragoon product released to date, and has given the Game Information section a complete overhaul. It now contains a more comprehensive listing of all the different versions of each game in the series. We owe Lance a debt of gratitude for all the work he has done for the community here.
Chris has also updated the trivia section with a quiz that's not so easy this time. Even I had trouble giving the correct answers to some of the questions, so good luck!

112. The Return of the Will of the Ancients.
Date: 28th of February, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
The Will of the Ancients was recently down for a couple of days due to changing servers, but now we're back, and with more webspace to burn than ever.
There are a couple of new articles for this update, which I've placed in a new section. Perhaps the most interesting of these new articles is The Mystery of the Emerald Dragon by Robert Frazer which discusses an early Panzer Dragoon build that a lot you probably have never seen before (I hadn't). The article includes some scans from the Official Sega magazine that show screenshots of what the original Panzer Dragoon could have looked like.
Lance has also written an article about the first Panzer Dragoon Saga screenshots, going through some of the more subtle differences between them and the final game.
Last, but not least, Geoff has also completely rewritten his review of Panzer Dragoon Saga. Maybe I'll do the same one day.

111. No new Panzer; brand new site content.
Date: 11th of February, 2005
Updated By: Solo Wing Dragon
For this update, I'm pleased to announce the arrival of a new section on The Will of the Ancients. The Parallels section contains three articles covering various stories (each from different mediums) that share a number of likenesses with the Panzer Dragoon series. Geoff has written an article summing up Overworks' Skies of Arcadia, and Lance has gone in depth talking about Moebius' Arzach. As for myself, I've completed an article outlining some of the parallels found in Hayao Miyazaki's excellent series of graphic novels, Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind.
If you're keen to contribute an article to the Parallels section, please let me know.
Also for this update a new "flythrough" for Panzer Dragoon Zwei. Jeremy Prusak has written a detailed guide outlining exactly what you need to do to obtain a Winged Death rank in the game. To further illustrate the guide, I've scanned a number of stage maps from the official Zwei guidebook. Full size versions of these scans can be found in the Maps section.
