Kyle and his posse ride through the scorched canyon. A series has to start somewhere, and in the case of Panzer Dragoon, it began with Kyle. In the Imperial year of 89 AF, during the reign of the 7th Emperor, a young hunter of engineered monsters, Kyle Fluge (sometimes spelt Keil Fluge) was hunting one day in the desert when he and a few other fellow hunters spotted an aircraft flying overhead. Stunned by the airship, they are unaware of a burrower creature behind them, and one of Kyle's co-hunters is killed by it. Kyle pursued the burrower while riding a coolia and chased it to an old abandoned mine. Here, he saw the lifeless carcass of the burrower and was confronted by a pureblooded monster of the Ancient Age. His original weapon, a standard crossbow, did scarce damage to the monster, although it took a direct hit.

Kyle was cornered, and just as the monster was about to strike, two dragons plowed into the mine, one blue and the other black, causing debris to fall upon and kill the monster and leaving Kyle in a daze. When Kyle managed to exit the mine, he witnessed the rider of the blue dragon take a fatal blow to the torso. As the dragon landed, the rider (who has been dubbed Sky Rider by fans) in his last breath connected telepathically with Kyle and begged him to stop the black dragon and his rider from reaching the Tower. To fulfill this task, he entrusted his dragon to Kyle. The Sky Rider died, and the dragon let out of screech of mourning.

This is where Kyle met Lagi, his mount. He took the Sky Rider's gun, and set off in pursuit of the Dark Dragon. While flying, he was spotted by his co-hunters. On the way to the Tower, Kyle would fight alongside the dragon, firing his inaccurate, although more agile blasts from his gun to fight off all who opposed. The Imperial fleet chased him throughout the whole game while they relentlessly chased Lagi. He encountered the Dark Dragon quite a few times in the journey. In the desert, he ended up being face-to-face with his enemy, and later near the Tower he defeated the Dark Dragon for good, even though it had changed into a more wicked-looking and powerful form. After beating his final adversary, Lagi puts Kyle into a protective shell and transports him to the shores of a beach. Here, he finds himself near Lagi's footprints, and this is the last we have seen of Kyle to this point. At the moment, no one is exactly sure what happened to Kyle afterwards, although there are theories.

A day's flight over the lake. A day's rest by the camp fire.

It is true that very little is known about Kyle. One reason for this is due to Kyle's lack of dialect during the game. In fact, the Sky Rider has more lines that he does in the script! Another reason for this is because of the fact that in other Panzer Dragoon games, almost any reference made about him is next to non-existent. However, it is important to remember that Kyle is still a dragon rider, and that automatically makes him an important part of the series.

One important thing to know about Kyle is his relationship with Lagi. Lagi shared a bond with Kyle that was almost like friendship. Protecting one another from villains, Lagi with his homing lasers and Kyle with his gun. Lagi seemed to show enough affection towards Kyle to know to protect him. He displays this when he transports Kyle to a beach so he would not face further danger.

More importantly however, is the mental and physical bond Kyle shared with Lagi, rather than emotional. What is now known is that Lagi would not of achieved his exact level of energy that he showed off in the games were it not for the riders. Lagi requires a rider to share thought and senses with to realize his full potential as a powerful and successful fighting machine. So, in truth, Lagi needed Kyle or would most likely not of been able to defeat the Dark Dragon were it not for the assistance of Kyle.
